It’s a simple
yet a very profound question. . .
What makes your mug your mug. . . ?
What literally gives it
not just meaning
but it’s sip-ability
It’s amazing even when it’s empty
When it’s your mug
It’s filled with much more
than your favorite beverage or drink. . .
It’s filled with once upon a time in memories
and significant just a moments
and they’re so overflowing
that it can’t help but to be shared
with another
. . .What makes your mug
your mug. . . ?
In just a moment
without even a paused ponder
you know
and sharing what you know
of these sip-abilities
is most holy

I don’t have one single mug. The mug with photos of my children when they were very little, another with a photo of my grandkids, one with my hometown’s name on it (Washington, PA), and yet another with a small sunburst etched into the lower part of the mug all rotate more or less on a daily basis. One, though, has a special meaning for me. It’s one of my father’s, a part of my parents’ autumn-themed Fransiscan line of dishware. It’s a cup that in his later years when I would stop by and check in on him each morning before going to work I would watch him pour hot water into from a pot he boiled on the stove so that when he put his coffee in moments later the coffee would stay hotter for him since it wouldn’t be entering a “cold” cup. Little things like that were brought to mind from your piece this morning. Thanks.

I have never heard of heating a mug with hot water so that the coffee wouldn’t be entering a cold cup. GENIUS and what a great REACH BACK Memory; just think, or maybe we can’t quite imagine, the memories that seemingly are inconsequential, are the very ones that our own children and grandchildren will cherish and be better because of something we’ve done or said. Hmmmmmmm. . . .
