Father’s Day was yesterday….
I’m not much for observing any day whenever it actually is. To me, right now, at this moment as you are reading this post, it’s just as much Father’s Day as any one that appears the third Sunday of any June.
Every year for the for the past 34 I’ve gotten my kids PRESENTS for Father’s Day. The logic to me, and I’ve taught them: I’M NOT A DAD WITHOUT YOU…THANKS FOR BEING MY GIFTS.
Yesterday was no exception, they all got Gifts of Appreciation from me.
Out of all the things, paintings, drawings, sweatshirts with their handprints, rocks from the beach or just off the street, hats, ties, pens, DVD’s, CD’s, candy, games, books, framed pictures, special desserts or dinners, the absolute greatest gift they’ve ever bestowed on me was that distinction of being a DAD…more specifically, THEIR’S!
It was truly not so much me who made them out an act of love, it’s been a continually acting of LOVE that has molded me into the best thing I could ever become: THEIR FATHER!
I remember reading a great quote from a guy named, Clarance Kellard, who observed this about his own father and what I’ve tried to now to be to my kids and grandkids:
“MY FATHER DIDN’T TELL ME HOW TO LIVE; HE LIVED, AND LET ME WATCH HIM DO IT!”
Not bad advice.
Not always easy to attempt or accomplish.
Thankfully, the only true thing I’ve ever found Impossible to do with my Children…
Is NOT TO LOVE THEM. . . .
I’m thinking, that’s why Father’s Day has never been a Day or a Season, an Occurrence, an Event, a Situation or a Moment–but a never-ending-always-enriching-Life-Giving Present.
My Kids have not just Changed my World–THEY’VE MADE IT!
Better still, they’ve made me believe that because of their love I not only can Change the World, but I live in a World worth changing for the Better!
GIFTS–Precious, Priceless Gifts…Mine.
Thanks Angie, Connor, Gina, Olivia and Zoey. Thank you!
