Ok, I will unabashedly date myself and ask NOT for forgiveness.
I remember IT all…the Beatles hitting the USA and the Ed Sullivan Show and the Songs. . .my, my, my, all of the great music they wrote, shared and shaped a generation.
Now, before we go too far, I’m not a Beatle-maniac. Like them, Love them, but not adore or idolize them.
And as for all of the vast Trivia, no, by no means am I even remotely astute…but I know a little and actually am unaware of lots.
So, hearing this story this past week as we approach their 50th anniversary of the Sullivan show, was a little enlightening for me, and now, hopefully, you.
It has to do with VISION!
It took a lot before the Beatles ever became the Beatles…they have a great amount of competition, but they also had, VISION! A single, SHARED VISION, which is a powerful combination.
The Beatles single, shared vision was simply this: To be bigger than Elvis!
Come on, back in the 50’s and the early 60’s, there just wasn’t anyone any bigger than, Elvis, and the Beatles had the audacity to to not only want to be as good, but bigger, better!
In the beginning when the going was anything but smooth, they’d often get down when they got turned down, or couldn’t get a contract or a booking. John would suddenly shout out, “Where are we going?”
They’d all shout back, “To the top, Johnny!”
“Where’s that fellas?”
“To the toppermost of the poppermost!”
Sounds a little whacked, doesn’t it?
So what’s the point?
THEY ALL SAID THE SAME THING! They all had that single, shared vision. And that, more than anything else is really what drove them to the top.
“Bigger than Elvis,” “the toppermost of the poppermost,” became the yardstick they measured everything else against. All of their decisions, from what to record, what venue to play, what outfits to wear–the question, either conscious or subconscious, was, “Is this taking us closer to or farther away from our single, shared vision?”
Bunk? Unbelievable? Outrageous?
Vision is more than what you see before you, isn’t it? Vision, at it’s truest focal point, what you IMAGINE. . .wait for it. . .
. . .What you IMAGINE to be TRUE!
Not hope, not wish, not pray. . .what you KNOW to be true!
So, when was it?
When’s the last time you had YOUR Vision checked?
The question never has to be asked or even begun to be answered, if. . .if. . .if. . .
What you Imagine, you KNOW TO BE TRUE!
See like a Beatle!
