Do you?
I wish for all kinds of things. . .
it’s different than hoping
it’s different than expecting
it’s different than asking
it’s different than praying
it’s different than begging
it’s different than wanting
it’s different than needing
W H A T
makes a W I S H
a W I S H. . .
Well. . .
going back to my English major days
in college I distinctly remember:
W I S H
is usually used in the P A S T tense,
but it can be used in the present tense. . .
it usually talks about r e g r e t s
or w a n t s
l i k e:
“I SURE WISH I HAD ME AN EDUCATION”
“I WISH I HAD STARTED SOONER”
“I WISH I HAD A DOGGIE”
H O P E
is more future tense
but it can used for the present tense, too. . .
It mostly focuses on A S P I R A T I O N S
“I hope to fall in love”
“I hope to get a good credit score”
“I hope you enjoyed the show.”
To the best of my knowledge
I remember first reading this illustrated video:
“I W I S H Y O U E N O U G H”
by Bob Perks
in CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE GRIEVING SOUL
. . .it’s amazing isn’t it. . .
how you can read something
and then read it
see it
experience it
years later
in a totally different way. . .
No matter
first
fifth
1001st time
I WISH YOU ENOUGH
and Hope it finds you more well
than even you recognize
at this very moment
I w i s h
I h o p e
. . . I
