Dark Nights of the Soul

We’ve all had them and few, if any are voluntary:

DARK NIGHTS. . .Of The SOUL.

They Scare and paralyze more than amaze and awe us.

I’m in the middle of The Wedding Season right now. I will conduct weddings from now until Labor Day and then a a couple more in the Fall, including my youngest daughter’s on 12/13/14.

There is absolutely NO MIDDLE to the Burying Season. They happen year around, oddly enough, much more so right after the major holidays than at other times (but that’s another Blog Post).

It’s fascinating isn’t it?

All weddings really seem to be fairly similar, but every marriage is vastly different. Death…well…we know that it’s the other side of the Coin we all carry that will one day Come UP for all of us. Death without any Vegas odds comes to everyone, but ONE MOURNS SADLY ALONE.

Dark Nights of the Soul.

We’re all pretty awesome because we are all so alike, and yet so unbelievably different. We can work together; throughout history we’ve proved it with Pyramids and the Great Wall, the great cathedrals of Europe, the temples of Peru. We play music, we make quilts, run hospitals, program computers…but we also have this capacity to work alone, too. We all, EACH OF US, on our Own, can think, plan, carry out projects that are distinctly just ours.

We are amazingly Interdependent and Independent and both bring us a great joy and an abounding pain.

Sometimes we can’t stand to be just by ourselves and other times need to desperately lose ourselves in crowds or at least small groups that battle the Aloneness.

Dark Nights of the Soul.

Unsupported.

Abandoned.

We feel the thickness of the Dark Night of the Soul and really believe, IF ONLY…

IF ONLY…

We had someone on our side.

IF ONLY…

Someone Cared.

IF ONLY. . . .

The Dark Night of the Soul whines, and blusters. It chills and dampens. It Whispers…

THE TRUEST FREEDOM, THE TRUEST SECURITY, LIES WITHIN OUR SELVES.

WE CANNOT GET THEM FROM OTHERS…WE MUST FIND THEM WITHIN OURSELVES.

The good news?

There’s never been a Dark Night of the Soul to last longer than a Night…

The DayLight obliterates it into a billion pieces.

The Secret?

We possess more of the Obliterating DayLight than the Dark Night.
